Artist Sign-Up

Registering with Mousai as an artist is a two-part process. First, you'll create a DeSo account if you don't already have one. Second, you'll register with Mousai as an artist.

To successfully register with Mousai, you'll need to have a DeSo account. If you have never created a DeSo account before, it may take you ten to twenty minutes to complete the one-time initial steps. You will be able to create a DeSo account in the process of registering with Mousai.

Registration Steps

1. Register with Mousai by clicking here. Clicking on it brings you to this screen.

From here, you'll do one of four things:

  • Sign in with an existing DeSo account.
  • Register for a DeSo account with Google.
  • Sign up for a DeSo account with a seed phrase.
  • Login by typing out an existing DeSo phrase.

Tapping an existing account will sign you into Mousai with that DeSo account. If you do not see a pre-populated account, you either do not have one or you have not signed into another network member website with the browser recently. If you have a DeSo account, but don't see your account listed, click or tap on Log in with DeSo seed or log in with Google.

Tapping the Sign up/log in with Google button will let you create a DeSo account with your gmail address. If you do not have one, Google provides separate instructions for creating a gmail address.

Tapping the Sign up with DeSo seed button will walk you through the necessary steps to create a new DeSo account. This may take several minutes to complete the one-time initial setup steps.

Tapping the log in with DeSo seed link will let you type in your existing passphrase. Remember that even one typo, no matter where it is in the passphrase, will cause an error message to display. Take the time to type it slowly, making sure you have only one space between each word.

At the bottom of the identity.deso.org URL, you will see the permissions you are granting Mousai upon login. These permissions are required and necessary for Mousai to interact with the DeSo Network successfully as a whole. You'll notice that other network members require similar permissions.

  2. Once you've signed in, click on the Become An Artist link in the left navigation pane.

If you believe that there is an existing pre-populated artist profile for you that you would like to claim ownership of, select the Claim existing artist option. Otherwise, select the Become an artist option.

Claim Existing Artist

To claim an existing account, choose the account from the drop-down menu at the top of the form. If you cannot find the account in the drop down, there is a high chance it does not exist, and you'll need to go back and choose the Become an artist option.

Fill out the rest of the form with the information requested.

Click on the Submit button after completing the form. Once the Mousai team receives the artist request notification, approval can happen within 72 hours (usually much sooner, although always subject to change).

Become an Artist

To become an artist, fill out the form with the required information. You can upload, remove, or change your profile picture. Choose a username. Fill out the first and last name fields.

Important: Attaching a Twitter and or Facebook connection can help speed up the account verification process. Likewise, uploading a copy of an unexpired passport (driver's license or government-issued id also valid) can help further strengthen your identity claim and help prove you are who you say you are. This helps ensure that Mousai does not give account control to the wrong person.  Adding these connections and uploading a copy of the passport, driver's license or government-issued id is optional.

Click the Submit button after completing the form. Once the Mousai team receives the artist request notification, approval can happen within 72 hours (usually much sooner, although always subject to change).

When you've submitted the form successfully, you'll see a confirmation screen.

After Verification

Once verified, you can start uploading videos, tracks, or both. You'll know this when you can see a pink button in the left navigation panel menu that will get you started.

Uploading Tracks and Videos

Once your account is approved, you can begin uploading tracks and videos.

1. To begin the upload process, choose the pink upload button on the left navigation bar.

2. Choose the files you want to upload. This screen lets you drag and drop files or choose using an explorer or finder window. Dragging the bottom button allows you to create an album if you're uploading several files at once.

Important: Mousai adds the name of the track based on the filename at the time of upload. Once the upload is complete, you can rename the title (it will overwrite any edits you may have made before the upload completes).

The pink progress bar along the middle of the screen will show you how much further the upload has to go. In the top-right section of this progress bar, you can see a status update. It will say "Upload Complete" when it finishes.

3. Once the file upload completes, edit and update the information. There are several fields.

  • Title Name
  • Album Name
  • Artists
  • Duration
  • Spotify ID
  • Genres
  • Tags
  • Description
  • Lyrics

If you're uploading an album, select the edit icon (pencil) to update this information for each track.

Warning: Duration is a required field for each track and is in the format of milliseconds which is the total number of seconds with three zeroes added. See the example below.

Duration Milliseconds Example

For a song that is 2 minutes and 25 seconds long, you will need to enter 145000 as the duration. Two minutes is 120 seconds. Add the additional 25 seconds to the 120, making 145 seconds. Adding the three zeros totals "145000".

Preferred Video Format

The preferred video file is an mp4 at a size of 1920 x 1080 and 1080p video quality. The length and amount of videos will cause different storage sizes and file upload speeds. For example, five minutes of a 1080p video may use approximately 170MB worth of storage.

Important:  Larger files that are nearly 1GB and higher (even if each of the videos themselves are short) may lead to time-outs or failed uploads. Please ensure you have checked the file size and format of your videos (for example, saving as a .mp4 will reduce the file size compared to an uncompressed .mov)

4. When finished, click the pink Save button.

When you're finished, you'll have a listing that you can share with the DeSo Network and other social media. A unique URL is available so you can send out the link directly to your track, video, or album.

Updating Your Artist Profile Page

1. Click on your username in the left navigation panel menu or search for your artist profile.

2. From the artist profile page, click on More, then select Edit. The next screen allows you to edit your bio, add images, links, genres, and more. Each tab across the top allows you to fill out and edit different pieces of information. You can edit this information at any time.

At the bottom of the screen for all of the tabs, your videos and tracks appear below in a list format.

Important: You can also update your DeSo profile name. Keep in mind, that this is where you receive tips. If you have several followers, it will be helpful to announce your username change regularly until everyone is following or tipping your new username.
